Early stole shawl with sprigged white centre and row of small pines at each end. End borders of medium pines on floral background with 2 floral strips. Similar floral strips form the sewn on side borders.

Paisley Shawl (SCOT 10)
Zebra or striped shawl, wide stripes have leafy tendrils and wavy stripe on alternate red and black background. These alternate with medium stripes of floral design on alternate yellow and white background. Narrow geometric stripes in between. The side and end borders consist of a narrow strip of pines. Decorated tail pieces.

Shawl with large black centre with encroaching border of medium pine tendrils. End border of large elongated highly entwined pines overlaid on a ground of 'indianised' designs with 2 stripes of small pines and flower shapes. Side border of small pines and flower shapes. Notes state turkish influence and D.Sime, Portsburgh, 19th century.

Paisley Shawl(SCOT 24)
Shawl with large white centre with all round border of slanted, voided pines. End borders consist of row of medium voided pines with 2 floral stripes. Similar floral stripe at side edges. Colour unusual for its pastel shades. Notes state 'Kirkin shawl', 'after the turkish', D.Sime, Portsburgh, 19th century. Also 'this shawl exhibits sample black warp stripes said to be indicative of manufacture by Gibb and McDonald of Edinburgh'.

Shawl with all over pattern, star shape in centre. Main part of design dominated by large elongated pines with celtic bird heads. All round border of leafy branches within semi circles within broad stripe containing small pines. Narrower stripe of small pines within archways around edge. Notes state 'The Celtic Plaid' originally belonged to Sir David Baird, East Linton.
